EQ mount help

Just after some opinions I’m after a new mount for my 80mm fractor and was thinking of a EQ5 with dual axis drive or the GSO SkyView II mount. I want a strong mount with dual axis drive if any one has one of these mounts please let me know what you think of them. Any feed back welcome I want to get it ASAP.

Don't know how well they perform but Andrews has some Celestron CG5 mounts with go-to for bargain prices ($999 and 1200 I seem to remember).

Before considering a CG5 mount take a look at the following site

I have a Vixen Gpdx Mount and had to have a few mods done back around 6 years ago as the mount was very stiff and was full of grease that was very
sticky.
The CG5 is the chinese copy to the Vixen GP and GPDX Mounts
They may improved things since but is something to be aware of

An EQ5 with dual axis drives would be quite sufficient for your 80mm. I've had the 150mm refractor, & now the C9.25 sitting on mine & as you know used to & still do high mag. planet photography. Have not tested it out on long time exposure DSO stuff as yet.

BTW I also did the deburring/regreasing etc to mine, but it was working fine before I did it.

thanks guys but a EQ6 or any other goto is out. I have only about $500 -$700 max to spend on a mount So I am just after a good one in that price range. I think I might get the EQ5 with Dual axis drives, thanks Asi :thumbsup:Im pushing it to get this much for a mount. Hopefully I'll get into Andrews early this week to get one. My celestron SLT 80 mount has that same grease as well sticky as, what is it some type of glue :screwy:.

Well I got my mount today :2thumbs: I decided on the GSO skyview II It looked better than the EQ5. here is a picture of it next to a 30cm ruler so you can see how big it is. It’s bigger and heaver than I thought it would be. Its proudly on show at the moment on the coffee table in the lounge room I cant stop looking at it, the wife and kids think I’m mad. :cool:
