I'm up to 32 hours of OIII on this sucker and getting some nice detail but it's still really noisy at 1:1...

The interwoven festoons of nebulosity really give this a 3D look. Excellent work Rick, you’re obviously blessed with copious amounts of imaging stamina in your DNA!
Cheers

Assuming I get to 100 hours the sad fact is that is that the SNR will be no more than 1.7677 times better. Thanks anyway, Troy :)
Thanks, Dennis. I think I'm just too stubborn to know when to stop ;)

Ain't nobody got time for that!
Very impressive Rick - how you manage these mega data sessions from your limited view of the sky amazes me!

Wow that looks gorgeous! Some exceptional detail in those faint lobes. Excellent work Rick.
Any chance of a full narrowband colour image? :P With proper RGB stars of course.... At 32 hours per channel it'll be a quicky

Thanks, Steve, John & Rolf!
I have some Ha and RGB for stars already. No SII yet - I have a feeling it will take a lot of hours on that filter.
Cheers,
Rick.

32hrs on one filter ...Wowzers!...soooo, you recon long exposures work  ..gotta get me this APC thingy (and dome rotation )
Like everyone else now, I await the finished product with much excitement :)

Mike: I'll have to do 64 hours on the SII now. See you next year

Beautiful image but what about your setup; camera, scope (refractor or reflector) and guiding or unguiding + mount !!! I think that I remember there is possibility to write the setup used in the signature.

Great details, I agree that it is worthy of Narrowband + RGB composition, this is a lovely object and so far you have done it great!

Thanks, Marco.
Sorry, Franck. I normally list the equipment but didn't because this is still a work in progress. FYI, the scope was a Ceravolo 300, the camera was an Apogee U16M and mount was an Astro-Physics AP900. Guiding courtesy of OAG and a Lodestar. I started with a few 20 minute subs but mostly I did 30 minutes.
Cheers,
Rick.

Wow that is fantastic to get it all in and it is faint so needs the time. Well Done.

In a word - WOW! I've never seen that level of resolution on this object. It is a real eye-popper Rick.
Are you planning a full NB treatment?

Thanks, Luiz and Peter.
Peter: I have a reasonable amount of Ha. I haven't tried SII yet but I'll give it a go if I get some clear skies. Might take me a while. I have an overseas trip coming up.

Up to nearly 60 hours of data but alas I'm unable to image for the next month... Here's a quick & dirty process of the inner shell in Ha (about 15 hours worth). The bright left and right edges are NGC 6164 and NGC 6165 respectively. I'll finish off the image when I get a chance.

Hello all
When I spotted Rick's post I asked him if he was interested in creating a collaborative, composite image given the excellent detail 32 hours of OIII exposure revealed. I had several hours of HQ Ha data plus RGB acquired with a 12.5" RC so the image scales were practically identical.
Anyway, total cumulative exposure time is 43.5 hours and the result is here.

thanks to Rick for donating such great OIII!

Hi Martin,
That's a very nice RGB/NB combination. I would have rotated my camera 45 degrees to get the diffraction spikes lined up if I had known in advance :)
I'll have a go at a Ha/OIII bicolour when I get a chance. Travelling on business at present...
Cheers,
Rick.
