IISAC wide field Rho Ophiuchi region

Hi all,

I had a great time at IISAC last weekend. Most of my time was spent trying to image many targets using my wide field set up. Here is the first of a few images I have been processing during the past week from the camp.

I'm up to version 23 of this image now! But I think I am happy with this version of it. I have tried my best to show all the dust in the region while trying to preserve colour without blowing out the star colours. I'm processing this off my laptop so I hope the colours don't look overcooked.

Mount: NEQ6Pro
Camera: Unmodified Canon 6D
Lens: Sigma 50mm f/1.4
Exposure: 27 x 2 minute subs at f/4 ISO1600 + 10 Darks

Thanks all for the kind words. Ed, This image is the first time I have used a new processing work flow which includes a technique called "Screen mask invert".

Great field of view - really puts it in perspective.

Nebulosity looks a bit weird to me though - too uniform. Might be the overall scale.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I do love this region of the sky, just so much going on.

Yeah I see what you mean David, I think that may be due to me possibly over doing the screen mask invert. Might need to back off on it as it can blur out detail in some nebulae which can make them appear flat.
