Folks,

Many thanks to AstroJason for the crash course in operating my little DSLR, and techniques for gathering my first data.

Canon 1100D on el cheapo tripod, Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8, ISO1600, 30 second exposures, 5 or 6 frames per subject, stacked in DSS. Pretty well cooked in processing, still getting to grips with things. They look best when small like this  definitely need more subs...

LMC and SMC, early in the evening
Looking east, Milky Way stretching really close to the horizon
Milky Way overhead - now just realised I should I have turned the camera around
Looking west, Milky Way setting :)

Feedback welcomed.

Hey Dunk, I enjoyed giving you the crash course in it, was fun! I really like these, especially the second and last shots. Now you should try processing just 1 frame by itself (so no DSS) just so you get an idea of how much noise you're eliminating by stacking the images in DSS.

Thanks Jo!

Jason - that sounds like an interesting experiment...
