Just got back from Tasmania and spent a night over at Swansea, which has one of the most beautiful dark skies I'd ever seen. Watching the milkyway rise from the bottom of the ocean with zero light pollution is a memorable vision :)

This is a composite of 30 second subs, taken with a 17-40mm@17mm f5.6 ISO12800 on Canon 6D for a total exposure of ~1 hour. Comments appreciated, thanks :)

Very nice :thumbsup: I guess for star trails you can reduce the ISO a fair bit (200 or 400) but increase the individual exposures to a couple minutes. Nevertheless, still a great shot

Thanks Adam. You're absolutely right, however I was capturing the milkyway rising at the same time, and since I had an aperture of f5.6 I needed to crank the ISO. Not that it's a problem with the 6D :D
