Maybe I'm being too fussy, but it irritates the hell out of me every time I look at my Tak TSA120, and see the word "apochromat" spelt incorrectly on its dew shield.
A company that prides itself on quality should at least get the spelling correct!

Have to agree Laurie, not very professional at all, where was quality control when they inspected it.

I can drop by any time and take it off you. I wouldn't want you to lose sleep and stress.

You shure its not a fake made out of aloominum

Just kidding

My first thought was that you may have bought a fake, but all images I could find on the net show the same mis-spelling (while the writing around the lens has the correct spelling).

Maybe you can send the dew shield back to Takahashi for "repair"? ;)

Cheers
Steffen.

Definitely not fake-I bought it new from Claude at AEC. I guess somebody stuffed up with the spelling for the decals, and Takahashi never picked it up.
Apart from that, its a magnificent scope

That would bug me as well. Maybe to calm yourself you can take a nice drive in your Ferrary.

Maybe I can paint my Mazda 3 red :)

Check if the lettering comes off. It might be one of Lewis's Skywatchers underneath.

I'm sorry revel in your misery. But, that is actually pretty damn funny! How much was it again?

But the choice of font makes it even worse :screwy:

The only font worst is probably Comic Sans. Or maybe Dingbat.

Adrian might be onto something here.

Let's see, "Takahashi Super Apochromat" should have 24 letters, but there is one missing.

Price of scope at AEC = $5,415.

Refund for missing letter = $5,415 / 24 = $225.

Just had a look at other photos on IIS-looks like they all have the same spelling mistake.
I guess I was the first to notice!

Steffen

Takashi should have a world-wide recall :D

But thanks Laurie for posting this, it made my afternoon and inspired me to waste half an hour on engrish.com...

Cheers
Steffen.

My pleasure, Steffen!
I just sent an email to Takahashi pointing out the problem:)

Here .......... Stick this on it you fussy bugger !!!

H

(I saw it when I got the TSA120 but just assumed it was made in Romania where the 'h' isn't used)

Kunama

I see that my FS128 comes with the factory installed 'h' so maybe to get the TSA120 down to a reasonable weight they had to make sacrifices.
I note also that some Tak scopes come with graffiti on them

OEM Takahashi H will cost you $500, plus $1.25 postage.

Now you have me worried Laurie - have to check the FSQ now!

Sure it's not the lazy-a$$ed Yank way of spelling apochromat? I am sure they drop H's in a lot of words where it is not a CH sound.

Morton, I ASKED YOU NICELY not to mention the fraudery that Claude and I undertook on Skywatcher scopes, rebadged as Takaashi (notice the missing H).

I agree it is very irritating!

Clearly no one here collects postage stamps. It's a flaw, therefore it's worth at least double what you paid provided you can find the same scope with the correct spelling...rejoice in your good fortune ;)

I had a laugh then checked EVERY Picture of a tsa 120 on the web and they ALL have the same spelling on the dew shield. Only mention is one bloke selling one on astromart said
" The ONLY defect I can find with the TSA-120 is the misspelling of "apochromat" on the dew shield. They left out the "h." "

Knowing the Japanese, if it was very politely and eloquently suggested to them to offer replacement decals with the correct spelling, they would probably offer it.

If it was suggested in the usual Western way, they would lose face and never offer a replacement. (they are stubborn to deal with at the best of times, though Vixen is worse!)

In the end, it's only trivial considering how superbly these scopes work. Second to none.

As I said, Lewis, maybe I'm being too fussy. The scope is absolutely superb, and I cannot see the writing in the dark anyway!
Its just unfortunate that such a high end instrument should exhibit such a basic error as a spelling mistake:)

There's a thread on CN just now that reminded me of this one. THis time it's mis-spelling on eyepieces and, guess what, Takahashi feature again.

Apparently the UWs are labelled "Astronomical Eyepice".

Fortunately they perform better than they sound...

I purchased a brand new Televue TV-85 which had fresh out of the box:

- 4-5 Small particles of rubbish on the back surface of the inside lens
- An air bubble imperfection in the OTA white paint work
- A faint scratch on the underside of the dew shield

Upon complaining about the particles the store removed particles from the lens surface via the use of a blower bulb and thus they were simply blown onto the inside black flocking inside the OTA where they annoyingly remained and would move around whenever I looked for them on the inside of the OTA:(

Suffice to say I wasn't impressed by the hype of Televue thereafter.
