Here is the result of my efforts. Despite a pretty dire forecast I managed to achieve something from a well-timed gap, however thin. More info including comparison of cloud forecast and actual satellite image here:

On the right of the first frame is a hint of Mt Abrupt at the southern end of the Grampians 50km away. I had lined this up in Google Earth but wasn't sure if it would actually be visible. The far side of the lake was a bit higher than I expected.

Perseverance pays off. Awesome shots. Well done Phil. Glad you got a look. If it was a weekend with that forecast I would have done the eight or so hour drive to somewhere in the west of Vic too, but work sadly got in the way. There was a glimmer of hope for a small break in the clouds here when just as the eclipse was starting the Sun actually came out and the clouds appeared to be breaking up a little but I was still at work at that time and by the time I got home there was a massive wall of black cloud covering the western horizon. At the time of sunset it was raining.

That's fantastic. One of the best shots I've seen of yesterday's eclipse.
Cloudy at home :/

Thanks Carlos!
Thanks Greg. An 8 hour drive would have been a big gamble for this one. I very nearly missed the whole thing and but for the sun squeezing through a 'hardly there' gap at the end would have very little to show for it, and that was after putting myself in what I thought would be about the best possible position weather-wise. It rained most of the drive to this location, a few more drops while I was setting up and then rained again a few minutes after sunset and much of the drive home. Weather gods did not make this one easy!
Thanks Mike. Sorry you missed out.. that was a big cloud band yesterday!

Great shots :) I would have preferred to be over east where it set during eclipse to get such shots :)

Well there must be more than 10+ million people who are over east and still didn't get to see anything on this occasion!
