Hi all. Well, there were just 3 of us who braved the cold & the damn fog/low cloud that persisted for most of the early hours. It started to clear from about 9.30 pm onwards which allowed us to at least see the sky. Jeff duly set up his 8" dob & began viewing a few of his favourites & perusing a couple of open clusters & Planetary Nebula along the MW arm starting with M8, M20 & M17. Seeing/transparency was only around 5- 6/10, which didn't allow for very high mag. A tad too much moisture up there. He showed us the Helix at 150 X but was very faint till he used his UHC filter which brought it out quite a bit better through the hazy sky.
I think between the 3 of us, we totalled around 30 meteors all night. Most were from the East & North East with a few sporadics from the West & S/East, with 1 or 2 at zenith. Most were fairly quick & reasonably bright, but 1 that I happened to see was about mag -2 & lasted about 1 second. We didn't see any that left trains at all.
We packed up at 1.00 am after a chat & coffee to warm us up.
A reasonable night but a little damp & disappointing, but that is just a part of our hobby.
I will now go n have a nice hot cuppa.....:D L.

Good report there L. Lets hope others saw it too and had some better luck, still 30 meteors between three of you is okay, you can take home 10 each :) Was clouded out here with rain so 100% chance of NOT seeing one :P

Good report there RAJAH.
It's good to have an observing session with others, even if it is only with one or two other people. The company keeps you keen and out there otherwise i would probably retire early.
You can have a chat and a coffie till the clouds blow over as we did on friday night.

Laurie, the best Meteor time was about 2am onwards. You all needed more coffee, jackets, beanies and a heater

Ken, the heater would've been good....but due to total lack of interest from our members, who've seen it all before, we 3 had a great time....
The others apparently went down last night n got clear weather all night. Some were still there at 3 or 4 AM...
