Jupiter July 28

Something very exciting happened tonight.

I can't believe I tried it only for the first time about an hour ago, but I decided to use my WO 2" diagonal in my imaging train.

It was more as an experiment as we approach the last gasps of this year's Jupiter apparition and my enjoyment of the recently purchased 3x Televue barlow.

Well, the combination of the diagonal and the barlow did something very nice. It increased my image scale noticeably.

I also took a page out of Mike's book and resisted the temptation to push the wavelets.

This is just a quick run through Registax with nothing else done.

Very excited about what next year has to offer from Jupiter and the approaching Saturn opposition:thumbsup:

I'm really happy with the way the imaging is going.

I really have to say a big thanks to you. Many of my recent steps forward have been largely as a result of your direct influence through this website and also through little bits of advice through answering private messages where I've bugged you for extra advice:lol:

You have always given honest feedback and I've always taken the advice in the spirit in which it has been offered.

I'm sure you've done the same for other members here at IIS.

I'd also like to say other IIS members have been so very helpful along the way as well.

that 3x barlow is excellent, getting up to 5x if the conditions will allow!

top stuff. I know it is a few months away, but start planning for some 3 or 4am imaging sessions for next jupiter season. Also once you get that little extra extension to go with the diagonal, you will know how hard to push it.

It would be great to put your images up against birds from canberra in similiar seeing during the warmer months. i would love ot compare c9.25 versus a newt and the difference in cameras

What planning do you recommend for next Jupiter season?

I'd really like to do a sidw-by-side imaging session with Bird. Might be something I'll have to arrange with him.

He's not posted in ages. Anyone know where he is????

His scope is in pieces and in storage, he's busy moving house and waiting for a new 14.5" mirror to arrive.

Hence he hasn't done any astronomy in weeks.

I reworked the avi which produced the first image in AstraImage.

Did a little LR... some gamma and some levels in PS.

Definitely think I'll go the full ppmcentre and RGBSplit

I'll edit the original post to include this pic as a side-by-side.

Matt, this is truly excellent, up there with the better jupiters from this season, well done mate.:thumbsup: The only thing you might want to try is adding a little more saturation to bring out the colour, but I suppose that's a personal taste thing:D

It's a strange one, actually. I did have a go at the saturation to see if I could develop a greater range of colours and maybe bring some out but it didn't respond as expected.

All I could get was some small blotchy oversaturated (burnt) areas and an overall orange-like tint.

I'll keep the avi and maybe have another go when my processing skills have advanced a little further.
