July 27 - Jupiter/GRS transit/ Io and Europa transit and egress

Here's 3 from earlier tonight.

The first and clearly superior image is from around 8.40pm when the transparency was at its best.

The second 2 were taken through thin cloud, hence the change in appearance.

Seeing seemed pretty good to begin with (I'd say maybe 6/10) but likewise dropped away as time went by (3/10).

If you look closely at Pic 2... upper right of the planet's disc, you'll see Europa captured crossing Jupiter's face.

Europa's shadow transit it just visible in pic 3 at the planet's left.

A very enjoyable evening though and some very promising signs for next Jupiter season:thumbsup:

Matt, reckon you've come of age with this lot. Fantastic level of detail in both polar regions and equatorial banding.:D Your best?

Stacks of detail Matt, a little bit grainy (perhaps a tad too oversharpened), but very nice nonetheless.

It looks like you need to RGB align some more though - all 3 look like blue should be shifted right 1 pixel, and red left 1 pixel. I think you'll find it will look even better after that.

Nicely done, and you'll be ready for next season for sure!

Excellent capture Matt

Your post heading suggests that the photos were taken on the 17, but if they were last night as in the 27th then we too and the Bandiana Public School grade 4/5/6, were watching (not photographing) the same event. I noticed Europa peeking out about 6.30ish. It was excellent - great to see the photo of the same event.:)

Oops... sorry Petra.

They were taken last night (27th)... not the 17th...:D I'll make the adjustment.

Slip o' the fingers. Yep 6-30ish was around ingress, just before GRS began its transit. Don't you love watching the start of a transit and seeing how long your eye can keep hold of a moon as it gets harder to see against that awesome backdrop?

If the conditions are OK you can see it make its entire journey across.
