I just had a quick look at mars (1:00 am ) i was only on my balcony and the scope was not out for very long but when i had a look at Mars tonight it looked like there was some snow / ice ( cloud? ) on its left limb at the 9 O'clock position.

Did anyone else see this? Otherwise maybe it was a trick of the eye or something?

I saw this the other night, it was actually quite conspicuous. It is infact thin cirrus-like cloud in the martian atmosphere.

Go into the Solar System images pages to see pictures of what you are seeing.

Also the north polar cap is visible.

I used to wonder about this too. It's pretty exciting to see so much detail on Mars!
