Looking at 8 inch dob:

From Bintel -
Standard Accessories include: - 15mm and 9mm Fully Multi-coated Plossl Eyepieces (1.25")
- Upgraded 30mm Superview (2") Fully Multi Coated Eyepiece - 68° Field Wide Field!
- 2" - 1.25" Adapter
- Moon filter

From Andrews:
- 25mm, 15mm and 9mmEyepieces (1.25")
- 2" - 1.25" Adapter
- No moon filter

Both are $499 mark.

Not sure the difference in the built and quality?
Andrews offers free shipping.

Thanks

I wouldn't take into consideration the Moon filter (if it is a simple Moon filter, they aren't that useful), unless it is a pair of polarising filters, which can be varied, that is cross-polarised, to vary the polarising (darkening). The Bintel wide angle eyepiece may sound okay, but it just depends on the quality.

Personally, I would go with the Andrews, as shipping can be quite expensive. Consider the cost of shipping from Bintel, and then consider what a really good wide angle eyepiece is worth. You may find that it is better to go to Andrews, and then spend the cash you save on shipping, on a better eyepiece.

Something to consider.

Cheers Pete

As you are in Sydney and if you can pickup, shipping shouldn't be an issue. I have a 30mm EP like the Bintel one and it not a bad EP. You will find that the shorter EPs will hardly get used in this scope so choice is with the wide angle ones.
If it was me I would probably go the Bintel scope, go into the shop and have a chat about accessories etc. From personal experience they are very helpful.
I did buy my 12" from Andrews and was happy with it, but I have found Bintel over the years to offer that bit extra.

Normally Andrews is a bit cheaper than Bintel (the 8" Dob was just $399 not long ago). In this case, with prices being the same and an upgraded eyepiece in the mix buying from Bintel is a no-brainer. They'll check that the scope is ok before handing it to you and provide great after-sales services. They'll even demonstrate it to you at their shop if you like. With Andrews you get unopened boxes straight from Taiwan. If there's anything wrong with the scope they'll exchange it for you, of course, but who wants that hassle?

Cheers
Steffen.

I thought you also got a 30mm Superview thrown in from Andrews. You will essentially be buying the same Newt one with a Bintel sticker the other with a GSO sticker. They are the same telescope. Cheers.

Andrews will give a 25mm Superview, so basically both companies package are similar. Upside for Bintel as Steffen said they will check before delivery. I am in Sydney so I will pick up myself, not sure if they will unbox it and show me the assembly?

BTW, there mount(base) look different. Not sure which one is better.

Ok didn't know they did a 25mm superview, just the 15, 20, 30 and 42 so there you go. You will get a black base not the white as shown. Both the Bintel base and Andrews base are the same.

*edit just checked Andrew's website it's def the 30mm superview. Cheers.

Andrews website offer also includes a pair of polarising filters. Websites are not always up to date though.......

I have an 8 inch Dobsonian from Bintel that I am looking to sell if anyone is interested. It's only been used twice and is 13 months old. I'm in Melbourne.

For a collapsible dob, besides it is easier to transport, what are the pro and cons?
Is it prone to damage, dirts?

I always reduce it after use, so it stays clean, but you have to be careful of course.
The only con I can think of right now is that is cannot be used with a solar filter. At least I haven't experienced any other cons. Some people thing collapsible dobs are more unstable, but I don't have this problem.

Hi Janet why don't you list it in the classifieds on this forum.

Ah...yes.
They also offer 30mm eyepiece.
So 9, 15,25 and 30mm in the package.

Edit: normally how much a 30mm superview eye piece costs?
