The moon was not visible for about 15min after rising. Here is a shot near the end of totality and one when it first became visible.
These pics are both full frames the first one was taken with a a 8"f6 newt and the other with 5"f5 refractor.

At the car park of the Emio surf club. I was thinking about sladie lookout but thought it might be a bit windy. We were lucky with the weather with this one hey.

Lucky alright. Two days ago we were having a cyclone!

I was on the beach below the lookout which was packed. It was a bit windy but not too bad. The ED80 and tripod managed okay.

Thanks guys, my daughter convinced me to take the big rig, the 8" portable pier mounted newt. The increase in resolution and image size (over my 4" and 5" refractors) at prime focus is worth the extra setup effort. It was really hard to see first up, I knew where it should be so I kept scanning with binoculars and it slowly faded into veiw. The other reason I picked the surf club was because it was a beach with a background this was ok wide field but not for the scope.
