Here are a few lunar images from last night’s session which I terminated as the seeing really dropped off after a few AVI’s. Whilst there is some nice detail, the seeing was not quite up to the focal length so there is a little softness or haze to these frames.

I pointed the ‘scope at Mars and grabbed a single AVI so I could compare the angular size of the Red Planet with the well-known Lunar Crate Copernicus to show how tiny Mars appears to most mortal imagers.

The elite planetary imaging maestros on Ice In Space obviously use a Mars orbiting spaceship to produce their outstanding Mars images.:)

Where are you getting this from, it was windy and cloudy yesterday. Bitterness aside, wider field vistas are very pleasing your Mars is looking detailed down inside copernicus demonstarting the difficulty of planet imaging with the scale.

Hi John

We’re some 15kms from the bay and I have noticed clouds hovering around the horizon in that direction, with the occasional set moving through our suburb.

Even worse than that, are the endless processions of aircraft trails that destroy the seeing in the vicinity of the Moon whilst it is low in the NW at the moment. I can see AVI’s going pear shaped as the incoming jets transit near the Moon…:sadeyes:

Thanks Rob, DavidT, DavidH and Mike, I thought I might get banned from the Forum for the Photoshop trickery of the “Mars-in-Copernicus” image. All in the name of science though, to illustrate how amazing the Mars images have been of late.:)

I saw Anthony Wesley’s Mars image on Spaceweather (April 9th 2014) (http://spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=09&month=04&year=2014) and almost fell off my chair when I looked at the images scale, resolution and overall quality of his image.:eyepop:
