just wanted to know if the up coming Lyrid meteor shower can be seen in the southern hemisphere? (in aus/WA)

the eta lyrids are very low to horizon .. I doubt you will see much .. if any at all.

You can, but they aren't much to get excited about this far south.
Better to plan for the eta Aquarids in early May. You'll definitely see something with those!
You've got to remember that those astro-themed memes coming out about the "must see" items for the year are written and intended for northern hemisphere observers. The eta Aquarids don't usually make much of an impact for them for the same reason the Lyrids and Perseids aren't that good for us, which is why they don't tend to get mentioned as much.
Even for me this year Lyrids aren't well placed in the sky for a week night starting low in the east.
