With the large number of subs taken in astro imaging, I got to
wondering what would be a reasonable shutter count with my 1100D
before it wore out, and if the shutter eventually failed, would it be cheaper to ditch the camera and buy a new one. Have some of you
out there got some examples of counts that your cameras have achieved?

For $300 for a new 1100D I would not hesitate to throw it in the bin.

I can't find the linky right now, but the early model Canon's shutter count before they died was about 50K I think. With recent models it is up around 150K. Other brands and models vary with MTBF, but the later the better.

Thankyou both. That means that my 1100D should last a while yet.
Maybe I'll fall off the perch before it does.
