Takahashi offload

Everyone seems to getting rid of their takahashi scopes this month.

Is there some conspiracy or something I missed?
What's the deal??

Maybe all the Tak owners realised they can do decent imaging with lesser scopes AND have a pile of cash!

It's was humourously discussed between Matt and myself - we both offer FS60's, and within a week, there is a FLOOD of FS60's, FS78, Sky90... just weird... at one point when I looked in the trader, there was 5 Taks in a ROW listed!!!!

My newly acquired FSQ106 was never even publicly advertised (usual circle of friends of friends). I don't intend reselling it... this week at least :)

It is a strange circumstance and beginners might get the impression that Taks are common mass produced scopes that are available on the 2nd hand market everyday:lol:

Clearly Televue refractors are inferior as I struggle to remember when two were ever for sale at the same time:rofl:

You could have the best of both worlds. No imaging, a semi-huge pile of cash, and a Tak :P. AFAIC astro imaging is best enjoyed by looking at the fine results posted elsewhere on this forum :thumbsup:.

It is really amusing to see so many Taks being off loaded.
And a certain member who express undying love to his Vixens had off loaded them too.
As they say, it is like marketing which is 30% truth and 70% hype.

Taks are really top notch and desirable scopes, but the ones being sold have a limited market being very small or very expensive. I notice there aren't any 102's or 120's languishing in the classifieds.

In the case of Takahashi scopes, particularly the more expensive ones, there is 0% hype and 100% truth.

;) It is strange for sure , but I wont ever sell my Tak , love it to much and Flash I hear you on the NA140 thing , there has only been 2 Istars ever advertised here over the years ...:thumbsup: .

And Johnny , you should do your self a favour :lol: and look at grabbing one of these here , its probably the last time you will see these for sale for many years .

My FS-128 has been my main scope since 1997 and I would only ever sell it if it was a medical emergency with a family member:(
The hype is true with that scope. Even on a bad night in Perth's suburbs I can see all 6 stars of the Trapezium.

I am after a small grab 'n' go refractor and the 78mm Tak looks good but I can't quite afford it at the moment.

I'll keep saving and when i have enough hopefully there'll be a few Tak's listed in the classifieds.

Believe me Brian

I have been eyeballing the TOA 150 since January. And now there are 2 for sale.
The only reason I am holding back is first that I will need to spend another
5-10k For a decent mount to hold 30kg and secondly I am still very much so a beginner in all of this.
My astroimaging ability is very limited. The gear I currently have should be able to produce some very respectable images but in my hands this is not the case. I will bring shame to This Tak TOA150 if I purchase it.
Further more I have to set up from scratch every night I want to image. This is time consuming and can be frustrating. I don't have a fixed observatory.

For these reasons I feel I should just stick with what I have and first master the basics.

Guilty as charged your honour. Yes, I loved that FL102S... I hung onto it as long as I could... but the hurdle to afford the FSQ106 was great and a supreme sacrifice had to be made... so, with sadness, the FL102S was packaged and sent courier to it's new OLD owner yesterday (I gave the FSQ a week to prove itself, which it did).

The absolutely amazing thing is the FL102 is going back to the same person who sold it to me all those years ago. THAT in itself says a LOT.

One look on CN about the FL102S will show how much respect and admiration there is out there for them - Vixen's best ever scope, up there with Takahashi and Zeiss.

Alas, we move on, we have new goals and ambitions, so a dedicated fast astrograph refractor was the way forward, and had been the goal for some time. Coming up with the $ and justifying a $5K scope to myself was the difficult part, and the only hurdle.

Anyway, don't need to justify it, and my love for that Vixen will never wane.
