Anyone else have the good fortune to have been in the company of a fine finger picker? Stefan Grossman by name. Up there with the best he is.

I have never seen him in concert but he was a big influence on my playing in the 1970's. The first album he made with Rory (Aurora) Block and the tablature book that it came with got me started on finger-picking and I haven't stopped since.
The first piece I leaned was Gary Davis' 'Delia' and then Dallas Rag (see below) was the first sophisticated piece I learned soon after.
Right now I am transcribing the music of Blind Boy Fuller and Big Bill Broonzy as a current project for a bit of musical fun. My ability to take that on is in large part thanks to SG's teaching efforts while the rest was down to a good friend who let me sit and watch (memorise and steal) his finger-picking rags and blues.
Have you seen this? SG from his younger days playing Dallas Rag.

Nice guy too.Humble achiever to boot. Speaks dearly of his early days making a nuisance of himself in the presence of legends like Rev. Gary Davis ,Mississippi John Hurt & a top dog in Son House .Influential to the blues for sure.
As a PS just taken delivery of a 'blues bible' viz "Blues Who's Who" (Sydney Sheldon ) Fits neatly on the shelf along with the others. Love the stuff i do.

Have you seen Debra Devi's book: The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu?

She is an excellent guitarist (her band is called Devi) and she interviewed the living blues players like BB King Albert Collins etc to create a dictionary of definitions of all those slang terms that turn up in blues songs. It's worth having on the shelf too.
Her FB page or search on Amazon

Trevor et al,

I only wish I had a fraction of the talent you guys probably have.

I was wondering Trevor, - do you have any Youtube vids up showing you playing any of this stuff? I'm especially interested in any SG renditions as well as older blues stuff.

Cheers buddy,

Sorry Paul. No I have never bothered to Video my playing.
If you search youtube for Stefan Grossman you will find vids of him playing.
You can find lessons as well by SG and a stable of great guitarists teaching old blues (he sells them here at http://www.guitarvideos.com/ and you can pay a very reasonable price and download them)

This is the address to his Guitar Workshop site on YouTube

And as a teaser this is him playing Tightrope
