Nice early morning Sun today, plenty of spot action too which is always nice to see.

Taken in a 6" newt, Canon 450D, OIII filter and baader ND3.8 photo film.

nice work, though looks a little soft on one side (left). heaps of spot action as you said. no sun for us for a few more days so this is gold ;)

Cheers, the softness might be down to either the light whispy cloud that was around or Registax as I didn't do my normal convoluted stacking process.
Still I'm happy to be getting the Sun quite regularly now.

OIII filter? Is that normal for white light solar?

Well I guess it depends on the definition of normal but it is common enough.
I suppose it's more normal to use a uv/ir cut or solar continuum but from what I have seen the OIII stands up to them and depending on the set up even can out perform. Another one that appears to be very good is a 7nm Ha filter.
I'll see if I can find a link when I'm back on the PC and post it.

I basically chose the OIII because it seems better than the uv/ir and as far as I know there isn't a eos clip filter for a continuum, plus it's possible I may be able to use the OIII for other things.

I think though that it may vary from set up to set up, some people say they have better luck with differing filters but I can't say I have any others to try for comparison. A cls maybe?

This is one of the better write ups although the setup is considerably different from mine.
