The SWMBO and I are heading to Cairns for a few days in mid June and as many of you have fairly recent experience of it after the eclipse in Dec 2012, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a place to stay? We would prefer an apartment so we can cook rather than eating out all the time.

Cheers

Hi Malcolm,

if you are going to the area for a holiday, personally I prefer the village of Palm Cove
which is 25km north of Cairns airport.

The northern beaches strip is prettier than Cairns itself and if you have a rental car,
you can have the best of both worlds plus get out and about in the Tablelands.

There is an abundance of accommodation along there to suit a range of budgets
and some very nice restaurants.

During the eclipse we rented a beach house which also had the advantage that you
could cook if you prefer. Have a look online as sometimes there are bargains
to be had including now and then for entire luxury beach houses. We were in the
area again last August and one sensed they were anxious for tourists.

Best Regards

Hi Malcolm,
We went up to Cairns in November for a week and hired a car from the airport, we stayed at Peppers Beach Club and Spa in Palm Cove in an apartment, so we could eat in if we wanted too. Nice views looking out onto the water and lots of things to do in the area.
I hope this helps.

I went to Cairns in November. I stayed here http://travellersoasis.com.au/ and loved it. As you can see, it is No.1 on the tripadvisor website. While most people are young, I have seen people of all ages. There is a common kitchen so you can cook. Anyway, there are also holiday apartments in Cairns if you do a search in Google. I want to move up there one day and hope I will finally have a garden so I can have a huge telescope. :)
