Great review, John. Thanks for putting that information up.

You state that it is significantly heavy to transport around. How would you compare that to your LX90?

Hi Shane, Thanks for comments. The LX600 is much heavier and larger than the LX90. The person who brought my LX90 did so because it was much lighter to shift around. Cheers.

I really appreciated the review. I currently have an 8" OTA from a 2009 LX200 GPS model that I now use on a skywatcher AZEQ6 mount (original fork damaged in accident) and I've been looking at upgrading to a 10", so your review is most timely and as you commented there is not many credible reviews around.

Not having a lot of experience it's also difficult to separate the manufacturers claims on the one hand and some of the negative comments I hear about Meade, or any other brand, from people for whatever reason.

I don't have a permanent facility so a bit disappointed to hear you don't think it would be suitable for constant set up and breakdown.

I was pretty happy with alt az mode on my LX200 prior to accident , even getting my feet wet with 30 sec photos using a low end Meade DSI camera with no auto guider. I struggle with getting even 30 secs with EQ mode (no auto guider , I know ...) , so the Autostar system I would appreciate.

I like the idea of being able to separate the OTA from the fork, that has to make transport easier. That's was always the hardest part for me to move easily.

Your positive review has me thinking of saving up for one. not sure if I should thank you or not . (^_^)

Thanks for your comments. I'm sure you'd be happy with an LX600 10". If you are happy to pull it apart to shift about it would be fine. I prefer to leave mine set up in its dome. Good luck. John W.

Good review. A few questions

1. Do you get pinpoint stars to the edge of an image ?
2. How difficult is the scope to collimate ?
3. Is the scope good for long exposure AP ?

Thanks for questions.
1. Stars are pinpoint when using prime focus - otherwise depends on quality of your eyepiece.
2. Scope is easy to collimate but I have not had to do this yet. Still perfect after a few years use. It is a solid unit.
3. I take short exposure pics thru my scope (up to 30 sec) of deep sky objects using a DSLR camera at prime focus and in alt az mode - works well after experimenting. For longer exposures you would need to use Meade LX600 wedge (equatorial mounted) and maybe go for a CCD camera. Wedges cost around $800.
