Hi. It was good to get out under the stars again on the weekend and was greeted with some great dark skies after midnight down at Innes National Park, South Australia on the Yorke Peninsula. It's a fair drive from home and after a brief stop over at Port Victoria, we arrived 5 hours later.
I was out all night, and when I returned to the camp site at 6 am, my wife told me one of our kids had come down with gastro which cut short the trip.
The National Park is a nightscaper's paradise with so many locations to try.
Here is one from the early hours of the morning on the 9th.
I found a small cave, made my way down and set up underneath.
To me, the top of the cave formation looks like a dogs head side on with mouth open and just happen to be in a good position near the Milky Way and Venus which was casting a nice reflection in the sheltered bay.
4 image panorama in landscape orientation. Canon 6D and Samyang 14mm 2.8.
Thanks for looking.
Steve.

Beautiful. I remember going to a lecture on astronomy in the UK some years ago, and the speaker talked about the emu in the sky that was so familiar to aboriginal peoples, and I really wondered what he was on about. I looked for it myself and never saw it. But now I have.
It makes me wonder what the night sky would have looked like with little air pollution and no light pollution. We'll never know.
Thanks for the photo.

Well composed image, Steve!

My only criticism would be the crunchy stars. Perhaps a slighter sharpening routine, or masking the stars to sharpen the rest of the image may help in this regard.

Keep it up. :)

Cheers Astroman.

yeah light and air pollution can be so frustrating. We love to get away to the cleaner, darker country skies when we get the chance.

Thanks H. Yes I agree too about the crunchiness and feel a repro coming on. I tend to get sucked into that trap.
Thanks for your comment.
Cheers.

Thanks Carl.

Thanks Carlos. Can't wait to get back. I didn't get to half of the locations I wanted to.
I found this spot as the family was exploring the area. I noted that is was a reasonably safe location to get to when it was dark so added it to the mental list of sites to visit.
Cheers.
