As I made my own dew shield to save money ( it turned out very well ) I thought I may as well save a few more $'s and make my own red light, I just brought a $5 torch and placed red plastic clear wrapping paper over the inner glass, it seems ok to me, ( i can make it a darker red easily by placing another layer over it if need be, only just done it )as far as I know it does not need to be a special red light? If it does im sure someone will say.
I am learning fast that this hobby can be expensive ans so whereever I can I need to reduce the costs, like many I suspect.

The secret to a red light is that it needs to be dim, so put as much red paper as you can and still use it.

Nice one:thumbsup: Adding a coat or two of dark red nail polish to the Bulb/LED helps. Also using partly discharged batteries can help get the light level down as well.

you could use red insulation tape. I prefer that over the cellophane paper as even one or two layers will keep it dim and red enough.
