Is anyone else going to this event? I'm travelling over on Friday morning and attending an evening at the GinGin Observatory before finding a remote location to scope for the night.

I have a prior commitment unfortunately. But I know a few people who are attending.
Wanted to enter the astrophotography comp but found out too late. Not that I would have had a chance, but would have been interesting to see what Mr Malin thought of my photo :D
I haven't been to the astrofest in 20 years! Last time I attended was when it was at Murdoch uni and everyone was in a buzz about the impending doom of Shoemaker-Levy9.

I'm sure you will have a good time :)

PS. It is a great event, well worth attending :) Biggest of it's kind in WA that's for sure. Usually get a strong turnout of 3000 odd people :)

I'll be there with my 25" out in the field - so feel free to drop by and say hi when you're done with roger!
Cheers,
Andrew.

I ended up turning up early and somehow managed to talk my way into setting my scope up and being a demonstrator instead of just a spectator. I am going to have to assume Andrew that yours was the Obsession parked at the back? If so I was almost next to you with the C8 that was having issues at the start of the day (and most of the night with bad tracking).

I will say that the organisers of the event were to be commended it seemed to go off without a hitch. I think I spoke to about 3000 people and every single one of them had a question or 10 to ask. So happy I made the long trip in for this and will be making my way there next year possibly even bringing my family.

Yep - I was at the end with the Obsession.
I was pleasantly surprised by how patient the public were, people were waiting up to 2 hrs for a look, and I think only one or two got grumpy. A lot of the credit goes to the organisers and also some of the Perth observatory volunteers who kept everyone entertained while they were waiting.
Hope you got the c8 sorted!
Cheers,
Andrew.
