Hi All

I'm out side at the moment doing my first drift align, i'm lucky enough to know where the SCP is, so i expect my mount is nearly already there.

I have followed all the moves for drift align and as far as i can tell it must be pretty spot on as the centered star dosn't want to go anywhere, and stays put.

I have left it running for at least half hour and still it stays there, is this long enough do you think, or would i need to go longer.

When i'll be imaging i expect that the expousures wont be any longer than a couple of minutes anyhow.

Thanks Leon

Depends on what magnification your drift aligning.....30 minutes is ample but not if you have a 20mm eyepiece in the ED80....how long do you get with at 150x....10 minutes is ample.

Hi Tony

Thanks for your answer, been new at this i didn't really consider the manification of the EP it was a 25 mm one at that.

I suppose i had better try one at a bit more Mag.

But then i wouldn't have any cross hairs, or is that not so important either, if the star stays dead center of the EP's FOV

Thanks Leon

how about a barlow.....if not put a 6mm eyepiece giving you 100X and see if the star stays central for 5 - 10 minutes.

25mm is way to low in magnification it would take all night to get any drift.
