Hi All,

I've been want to take some pictures of the Vela SNR for many years. Either myself or my equipment hasn't really been up to it.

So here's my first real go at it. Of course I can't capture it all, so I've just picked one area that I liked.

Narrowband image, 2 hours SII, 2 hours OIII, 5 hours Ha. False colour image, in the HST palette, tweaked severely in Photoshop to bring our the contributions from each element. OIII is blue, Ha is yellowish, the SII contributions can be seen where the Ha changes colour to a more red.

Share and enjoy.

Cheers
Stuart

P.S. I added a new version with a different colour scheme, I like the second one best. What does everyone else think?

Looking great! This is a pretty faint object as I found out in my first go at it over the last few weeks. I am just finishing off the hydrogen alpha before I start my colour.

Bought another FS60 just to do widefield, but not trying to imagine how much exposure 60mm is going to need on this compared to your 10" system Stu!

Magic image as always. Keep em coming - enjoy them all

You might find that you will be ok Lewis. In my experience sampling plays a big role in how much exposure you need, and shooting with the FS 60 yours would be 4.3 arcseconds/pixel with the 12 inch newt its 1.03 arc seconds/pixel

All too true Peter, unfortunately this also work for light pollution as well. There must be something nearby me which leaks into the OIII band, I had horrible gradients in the OIII subs last night. So as much as I'd like to go ultrawidefield with this one, I'm not sure it's work in light pollution central.

Looking forward to Lewis' and your renditions.

Cheers
Stuart
