IIASC2014 (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/iisac) (the IceInSpace AstroCamp) is being held on the 24th - 26th April 2014, again in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of NSW, at Lostock.

Registrations are now open (http://shop.iceinspace.com.au/shop/iisac2014-registration/)! The event is now only 2 months away, and this year is being held during the school holidays and a public holiday (ANZAC Day), so you can minimise the annual leave you need to take, AND bring the family along! :)

Find out more about IISAC on the info page (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/iisac), or jump straight to registration at the IceInSpace Shop (http://shop.iceinspace.com.au/shop/iisac2014-registration/).

If you've never been to a star party before, if you've never seen the Milky Way under a dark sky, you just have to come along. It's a great event for the whole family - you don't need to own a telescope, and you don't need to be an IceInSpace member. Everyone is welcome, and I hope to see you there.

* Saturn occulted by the Moon

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/newsletter/images/20140224-saturnocc.jpg

Colin Legg from Western Australia captured an amazing occultation video showing Saturn pass behind the Moon.

- Watch the video on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/87319245).
- Read his thread on IceInSpace (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=117722).

The occultation (when one celestial body covers another) occurred on Sunday morning, 23rd February right on dawn, West Australian time. Colin used a Celestron C8 at f/10 prime focus and captured the video using a Canon 5D2. Each exposure was 1/60 sec exposure, ISO 200, 10 fps.

These events really show the scale of the Solar System - when you can see Saturn at the same scale as the Moon as viewed from Earth.

The occultation was the first of three that will occur this year from Australia - the next ones will take place on:
- 14th May 2014
- 11th June 2014 (Southern WA only)

Congrats to Colin for an amazing capture!

* Remaining calendars now half-price!

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/newsletter/images/20130802-sscalendar.jpg

I've just reduced my remaining stock of calendars to half-price. I have limited stock (about 6) of Astronomy 2014, and about 30 Southern Sky 2014.

If you order 2 or more, you can still get the 20% discount which brings them down to only $7.60 each. Add to that, cheap flat-rate shipping no matter how many you order, and it's a bargain to get some great monthly images and celestial events up on your wall.
