Hi guys,
I bought a second hand ETX125 before Christmas last year, from Perth, but the scope arrived with Alt/Dec problem. I would have return the scope if the previous owner is nearby but the freight cost to Perth is just too much, so it would be loss loss exercise.
Anyway, last week I took the scope to Bintel and after a close inspection the senior technician suggest that I use the OTA with other mount. Apparently the previous owner over tighten everything until the plastic bits crack.
It can be repaired as the electrical and gears are still in good condition, as good as it get for second hand item. It can be repaired if you have plenty of time and patient, but it requires a little bit more than just glue the bits together.
It would cost me more than what I'm willing to invest on this scope if I let Bintel repair the mount. But all is not loss as the OTA is still in good collimation, so I opted for a manual EQ2 mount instead.
Here it is an ETX 125 mount, to be use as spare parts.
