Heading up to Snake Valley next week and making the final preparations.

Need to get some sort of waterproof bag to put over my scope in-case it rains and some sort of dew shield.

Looking at the ones that Bintel sell, the 160mm is $49. Is it worth it for my Newtonian or is there a "homemade" cheaper solution I could make quickly during the weekend?

Thanks!

A tarp from Bunnings will easily cover your scope in case of rain.
If its just the end of your scope.

Shower cap.

Dew Shield. Go to Clark Rubber and get something cut out for $20. Use adhesive Velcro to connect the ends together and wrap around the end of your scope to make a dew shield

Like what I did for my AR102

What would you use to wrap it around so it doesn't fly away?

If its a tarp and its reaches the ground. Tent pegs or rocks even.

If its the shower cap. They are usually elastic on the end. It should hook over the front rim of the corrector lens on your OTA.

+1 for the rubber and velcro. Usually KMart has cheap 1cm foam camping mats for about $10 and you get lots to play with for Mark II or III. Heavy duty adhesive velcro strips are always good to have on hand. I usually pick up some at Bunnings.

I used to regularly get secondary dewing, but have never encountered problems with this installed. Saved wiring up a heater.
