G’day everyone.

Have been braking my head over autoguiding the last 10 days or so and have finally got a decent guided sub.

1x300 second sub at ISO 1600, Canon 1100D and 8 inch f6 newt, I’m pretty chuffed, I would have got more only dawn was coming on and now it’s full moon. Can’t wait to try out my success in a few days.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers
Jo

Jo,

I share your frustrations.... been struggling to get the auto guiding going too... very tempted to give up at times... but think I am getting the hang of it slowly.

Great first up guided sub... love it!

Looks real good Jo. Now theres no turning back!!
Btw, Did you boost the saturation?

Next target should be a galaxy. Its the best feeling when you see your first galaxy.
Try the bright ones ngc 253, m83, silver coin ..
You'll get some really good details with the 8" f6 and 5 min subs..

Cheers

That's amazing for only 1 sub!

I feel like I'm shooting through a neutral density filter.

The sky opens up once you have guiding, can't wait to chaise down faint galaxies

Thanks Paul :)

Thanks Rod

Keep at it! Guiding is great as you can see :D

Thanks Alistair, yeah I had a good old fiddle with the image. I'm looking forward to imaging M83, I did it a year ago manually guided with my little acro but it wasn't something to be proud of

Long subs rule  I did some 10 minute subs of Orion the other day with my wide field lens and the stuff I captured was amazing:eyepop:

You know what you need to do? Buy yourself an 1100D, an auto guider, and move southwest ;)

Thanks Ray

I'm wondering what your secret is and I think it might be a combination of the above. I'd like to compare the 1100D to the junk I've got. But I also think you are elevated above a lot of the smogasphere. What's your elevation ASL at Cecil Plains? A quick google puts it 1k+ feet.

I could take some darks if you would like to compare? (it's full moon anyway)

My brother is a pilot and I think he sets his altimeter to 1000/1100 ft, or something like that. The only downside of around here is that the seeing isn't great in summer due to all the black soil paddocks holding a lot of heat.

It's not just the noise, it's signal as well. Not sure how to compare that.

Thanks a lot for all your nice coments

I am using a Synguider ( a self contained unit) so can't help there I unfortunately.

Thanks again,

Jo
