Seems like everyone is getting a little data on some small mag10 galaxies, so I thought I would post this as Ive been trying out my 10" SCT with a few alterations to my guiding to see how it goes. I was only able to get 12x10 min luminance images and had to forgo any colour as clouds have been our constant companions for days now. I was pleased with the 3 dimensionality of this galaxy after processing.

Ah yes that is excellent. You did get a lot of inner core detail and that lovely unevenly shaped star halo. Good stuff.

Glad you liked it. Just need some decent weather at the moment to do something more productive than fiddling.

Very nice detail in the core Allan. Might get an hour or two in tonight if we are lucky!

Nice image Allan, shame about the weather ATM. Hopefully the clouds might clear to capture some RGB data.

Thanks for the comments Peter, they are appreciated. Hmmmm, might get in a few hours ----indeed I did ( of complete knuckle bruising, brain bashing exasperation which ended when the dog ran into the mount outside and upset all my calibrations with the EQ6. The dogs walking a little funny ATM -brain damaged I fear).
Stamp collecting is looking good ATM.

Thanks for that Geoff but I fear the weather is completely against it for the next week or so. Here's hoping anyway.
Mark, I appreciate your viewing and comments.

Really nice, Allan! A detailed core and a surprisingly large halo.

The detail in that gives it some real depth.
I hope you build on this and post the results because I want to stare at it a whole lot more.

Thanks Rick, I was just lucky to get some data as I've been chafing at the bit without getting some photons. I was pleased with the detail as I've really stopped pushing the data to death and now just use a few general routines involving levels, curves and masks and then just a slight sharpen.
Thanks Trevor, I just hope that I get the time for a little more data or I may do another faint galaxy I have in mind.

Great detail! :) Somewhat un-flat background (brighter towards the edges except top left) is the only thing that detracts from it for me ..

Looks amazing Allan, one of my fav galaxies. Is this also called the sunflower galaxy or is that another one?
A full res crop of just the galaxy would be awesome.

The sunflower galaxy is actually M63 or NGC5055 but they do indeed look similar. M63 is at mag 9.3 while NGC3521 is at mag 11, quite a difference.

Not so good Roger when you look at Gabany's image and you can see what light pollution does.

Thanks for that Logan. Actually it was the very first scope that I ever bought. I went to the astronomy club and a chap whose advice I respected told me to get the best and biggest scope that I could afford. I eventually bought the 10" and deforked it as the mount was cr@p and I can't envisage selling it, so it's got a home as long as I have.
Thanks Mark, hope you and your mate Adam are going to Astrofest this year and we can catch up.

That looks awesome, great work! The 3D effect is obvious and I'm sure it would look really nice in colour too :)
Thanks for the view.

Thanks for the comment Rolf. After looking at Gabany's image this galaxy really could do with some long luminance and Ha to bring it out more. Maybe next year as the weather here has turned to mush.
