My first DSO submission for a while.... My main target last night was a faint asteroid, but it doesn't reach a respectable altitude until late, so I was in need of a fill-in target. I hadn't planned well, but I'd scratched down NGC1566 and some co-ords in my notebook a while back, so thought it would do....
I was pleasantly surprised, the initial sub looked great, so I pushed on...

Then by the time I got to my asteroid, it was getting quite high and the mount ran out of travel after only 25 minutes, and I was too tired to muck around meridian flipping it! I think it is too faint for my system anyway.

This is 40x2min subs, L only, binned 2x2 Atik428EX on the 8" newt.

Nice work. One of my favourite galaxies. You got those lovely spiral arms showing very well.

Greg.

I really like the negative shot, they always remind me of UK Schmidt plates
