Hi Everyone,

today I took a few images from Auckland, NZ, (02.02.2014 18:24:47)
I wanted to see what the images would like when using a colour filter. Whilst taking the images (at various exposures) I noticed a transitting object and kept hitting the shutter.
Can someone please give me a hint what I am looking at?
It was moving rather fast.
Image taken with:

Celestron OmniXLT150 (6" Newton F/5), 2xBarlow, Celestron colour filter #21, EOS450D (TV at 1/1000s and 1/250s)

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers
Max

I'm confident to say a low earth orbit satellite. Had something similar happen to me a couple of times while sketching the Moon - absolutely thrilling and spine chilling at the same time! The first time the Moon was close to full, and I thought I could make out a slight coppery shine to it and noticed a few antennae/solar panels. The view only lasted a couple of seconds.

Great capture, Max,

Hi Alexander,

many thanks for your reply. I thought about a satelite as it was way too fast for Mercury but wanted to ask for a second, unbiased opinion. Of course I wouldn´t have minded if it were a previously unknown NEO :P
Anyway, I love that side of stargazing. There is always something else up there, just gotta keep looking.

Cheers
Max
