Hi...I borrowed my old 60mm refractor off a friend of mine to compare views of Jupiter with my 8" dob...on low power they both were quite similar, but through a 6mm ep, the Dob was a clear first...! And as for ease of use...a lightyear in front is Mr Dob...don't know how useful this post was...bye! :)

Pretty good comparo! Depends on the quality of the refractor too I suppose

A more betterer comparison would be with DSO's. ;)

DSO's - and galaxies in particular - will be the discriminator for these two scopes.

Basically a 20cm aperture puts galaxies in reach. A 60 cm has no chance apart from the Magellanic clouds and a few bright ones like NGC 5128.

And for galaxies, a 30-40cm aperture is really where the fun starts. Beyond that the next significant increment is 60-90 cm.

I dream of having a 60cm!!!

Yes, I didn't even look at DSO's through the refractor...there would be no comparison! Isn't Jupiter great at the moment!
