View Full Version here: : They should really think of a name!

Hi,
I love imaging in Carina, but some of these beautiful nebulae need a name.
This region imaged, has NGC 3576,NGC 3579,NGC 3581,NGC 3582,NGC 3584,NGC 3586,NGC 3603 and that's just the NGC's!!
Perhaps an overall name.
Anyhow, this is my cropped image of the region. It's a tough bugger to process with so many stars in the field, it's easy to go too far reducing them.
I think I have the balance and colour right.
Equipment used.
8” F/4 astrograph , baader type coma corrector,. HEQ Pro 5 mount, orion mini guider.
Camera.
Unmodded Cannon 1100D, Cooler box.
16 x 8 minute subs ISO 800 , flats and bias frames applied.
Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker .Processed in Photoshop 7.
Cheers,
Justin.

Very nice image Justin. Colours are nice.
I was looking forward to someone shooting this area after my ED80 pic.

Thanks Kevin!
Do you have a link to your image?
Wouldn't mind trying it with my ED80 too.

Great colour. You got a surprising amount of the Ha for an unmodded DSLR.

I still think an appropriate name is "the slam dunk nebula" :D

Well how about that! :D
Probably the 1100D, will be a nice challenge to get something as good as yours though
Have you ever fiddled with the white balance shift bracketing thingo in the menus? I did the other day and moved the little box towards the red/magenta corner and found that it improved the images heaps, not only for nebulae (takes the horrible green and blue away) but stars look good too, 47 Tuc was an awesome golden colour :)
Cheers

Some people call it the "Statue of Liberty Nebula."

Cool!
Hi Jo!
Always left it to auto white balance, thanks for the tip, I'll try it out.
Thanks Kevin!
Can't have a Northern Icon, that just wont do!!
Hmmm, what have we in the south
Cheers,
Justin.
Hi Justin
Stephen Chadwick and Ian Cooper have this in "Imaging the southern sky" known as the Torch Bearer Nebula ( no hemisphere shenanigans..), a good NB target and a reasonable FOV if doing wide field, but specifically NGC3756 alongside NGC3603. I tried this last year with DSLR, rgb and a Ha filter but struggled with processing  couldn't get the registration right.
Having said that, you do a fair few mosaics so this whole area including Running Chicken, is well up for grabs.
Nicely done.

It looks like a bull's face with horns.
John Herschel gave six numbers to one object here.

Another nice image Justin! It reminds me of an astronaut in a space suit, or at least the top part looks like a space helmet

Thanks David!
Thanks for the info too.
Thanks Glen!
Hmm, still suspiciously northern, what about "Gazes Glory" after Andrew Gaze. :)
Thanks David!
Can't quite pick out the Astronaut, it's really one of those what ever it reminds you of nebulae.
Cheers,
Justin.

Thanks Rick!
Yep, I love my 1100D!
Thanks Ray!
It's certainly a crowded area of sky, especially the star population.

Cannot think of one for this region, but the central, famous region I nickname "The Testicles". It's obvious, to me at least. Nuts in Space :)
Yep, I am certifiable. :P:screwy: (it's Sidonio's influence :welcome:)
Lovely image, as usual Justin. VERY envious of your dark skies and CLEAR skies.

Forget about all the invisible shapes - the colours you've achieved are spot on!! Very lovely image Justin. I'd like to see a larger version though!
Cheers, Marcus
Edit: Doh! I found the larger version! Very nice! A tough subject too.
