A very useful weather website with many features

Hi over there . . .

I came across a weather conditions website that a couple of airline pilots tell me they use in the cockpit to find the best real-time tailwind streams on their long-hauls. It is run by a supercomputer and is surprisingly detailed (http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/overlay=temp/orthographic=136.08,-31.41,766) at the very minute local level as well as global.

I use it to find which winds aloft will most affect the seeing at the time I'm observing. High altitude winds cause undulating patterns, the lower altitudes cause shimmer and flare. Click on the word 'earth' and it takes you to the menu of options. There are a lot. I spent the first few days roaming all over the weather of the world with the same eye-opening wonder that WikiSky inspired.

Terrific - I've bookmarked that. There are a lot of options, and it's oh so soothing :)

Talking of weather, I use a really neat app called "Scope Nights", which links into a global circulation model to give a reasonably accurate 10 day forecast of viewing conditions, and 4 hour projections for a few days in advance. You can get this on a app called Higgins Storm Chasing for the iphone. Great app. Lots of weather stuff on it.
