SPX350 F29.5, PGRFlea3, Baader RGB filters, Astronomik IR742. 140033hrs UT.

Seeing was forecast to be good and sky clear but high mist and scudding cloud dominated giving me only one opportunity to get Jupiter over an hour past the meridian at 37 degrees alt and it turned out well. Cloud then came in stopping my Mars ambitions.

I took 80 sec subs and tried the derotate avi in WinJupos before stacking but it produced a negative image which VirtualDub fixed. The derotated video results were better than the straight avi's when assembled in WJ.

The derotated detail had better contrast with less noise and edge and pole detail seemed better. This derot processing takes some time.

My planetary processing skills are a little rusty.

Image 1- Straight avi's R RGB
Image 2- Derotated avi's R RGB
Image 3- IR742nm.

Thanks, John.

Have not imaged Jupiter for two year now. Waiting for Saturn and Mars to get high enough this year to image, I don't expect I will image Jupiter this year either. It is very low here but nice to see a good image of it come out of Australia. Well done John.

Thanks everyone - I was fortunate, seeing was forecast to be good and was otherwise I would not have bothered. I never get the GRS so this was extra good but cloud teased me for ages.

I too can't wait for Mars and Saturn's appearance, having two planets is hard work but welcome as I did not get much Mars last time and weather made Saturn all to brief last year.

John.

Great images John! I haven't taken a Jupiter image in more than 5 years, but images such as yours make me feel tempted. I'd need to upgrade my planetary camera though, it's still only the ToUCam.
