I got up at 4:30 with high expectations, but I found almost complete cloud cover, which happens a lot when good seeing is predicted for this time of the day. Maybe has something to do with the proximity of Port Philip Bay - I'm only a couple of k's from the beach.

Anyway, I spotted Mars through thinner cloud and decided to check the seeing. It looked much better than on the previous sessions this apparition, so I decided to go ahead and at least try to get a red avi.

Amazingly, by 5am the clouds have thinned out enough to go for RGB.

Nice smooth image Stefan, very natural looking.

Niliacus Lacus and Mare Acidalium are particularly prominent.

Werner, I have bad news for you: You, Europeans, can forget Mars for the next few seasons. It's ours and so is Saturn. You just have to make do with Jupiter for a while.

Cheers,

Stefan
