Hi,

An image I've wanted to put together for while.
This is 2 panels stitched together using ICE, I then had to layer in some missing wedges of sky then crop the image, using photo shop.

Also decided to diffuse the stars in Crux and Alpha and Beta Cen. I've never done this before and quite enjoyed the process.

Hope you enjoy the image.
Feedback appreciated.

Equipment used.
HEQ Pro 5 mount, orion mini guider.
Camera.
Unmodded Cannon 1100D, nifty fifty .
18 x 2 minute subs at ISO 800, each panel.
Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker. Stitched in Microsoft ICE, Processed in Photoshop 7.

Cheers,

Justin.

Very nice, Justin! I can't decide if I like the diffuse stars better or not.

Nice mosaic! I like the diffuse one better! I get the same effect from my old Deep Sky Filter that has worn coatings.

Thanks Kevin!

I've always liked images of the pointers and cross with a diffuse look, can't remember the name for this?

Cheers,

Justin.

Thats really nice Justin

I quite like the diffused stars, I would probably reduce it slightly maybe?

Download Microsoft ICE, you won't regret it, makes mosaics so simple!

Yeah both look good but the diffuse bright stars version kinda has something

Interesting to compare your result to THIS (http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/73624455/original) point and shoot non mosaic from 1984 :D...I like yours best

Thanks Mike!

Thanks for posting the film comparison. Probably testing your memory, but can you remember what lens you used?

Looks around 60mm at full frame.

Cheers,

Justin.

That was just a scan of a print unfortunately

Olympus OM10 50mm Lens and Kodak Ektachrome 400 (I think?)

I haven't been able to properly try out the 1100d yet, but some quick tests have got me very impressed, can't wait to get the guiding running and do some long exposures

I'm hoping to convince the owner to let me mod it for him :D and I'll try and get as much use out of it before he comes to pick up the scope ;) (it's for the scope I'm building for him)

Tell me how it goes, if you do mod the 1100D.
I'd be very interested.

Cheers,

Justin.

Great looking wide photos Justin.

I love the "glowing" star version.
