The International Dark Sky Association (IDA) needs your help ...

Australia is one of the wealthiest nations on Earth. Surely most of us can afford to make a small contribution to help solve one of the most serious problems confronting the planet?

Murry, you are right, probably a worthy cause, however if we gave donations to the continuous stream of "please help with your contribution" we, well at least me, would be broke by now.

It seems that every day someone, or some organization is pleading for donations.

Sorry but i don't do it anymore.

Leon

Have to aqree with you Leon to many charity cases these days. Australia might be a wealthy country but a lot of that goes OS to a select few. Govts, politicians don't give a rats about this or climate change even when they know turning off the lights would help both and save money at the same time.

Gday Trevor

It would appear a lot may "quietly" stay here as well
Heard on the news at lunch that VECCI wants to be deemed a charity so it doesnt have to pay tax. Just found this.

I liked this bit

Sooo 248 gasbags on an average of $85K a year and they now want my taxes to help fund em???? You dont get a choice who to to donate to in these cases.

Yes, im wary these days too. I remember an article on "red nose day" a few years ago. Not a cent went to charity, all donations were invested in property .Why I dont know BTW, but I just cant be bothered finding out, so I dont bother donating.

I would rather spend my money encouraging the local councils to replace the street lighting with down facing LEDS.
I think it's as valid a contribution to the cause as sending the organisation $35.
