Hi,
Recently stayed at a B&B in the Barossa Valley, ( see nightscapes and terrestrial photography).
Broke out the nifty fifty lens and the tracking mount and imaged the LMC.
I'm surprised how it's come up, considering it's only 30 minutes of data.
Camera. Canon 1100D, ISO 1600, nifty fifty lens at F/4.0.
2 minute subs, no darks flats or bias.
Cheers,
Justin.

Great shot Justin. Nice colours. Who needs $20K worth of gear to get a good shot?

Excellent, Justin. It's amazing what you extract from that unmodded 1100D!

I think you've got a rogue 1100D. Normally unmodded cameras don't show Ha like that.

Thanks Geoff!
Good fun going back to basics, but it's always tempting to spend more on this hobby.
Thanks Laurie!
All done in photo shop, I'm getting a dab hand at adjusting the colour channels.
Thanks Kevin!
Just a bog standard 1100D, all photo shop.
Cheers,
Justin.

A nice photo Justin. We are so lucky to have this area in the southern sky.
I too was going to say something about your Canon 1100D and then saw all the other comments. I just put it down to Voodoo because most 1100D's do not seem to have their Mojo Working as well as yours does.

Thanks Mike!
The data looked pretty clean, so thought I'd see what would happen.
I'm lucky my wife let me take my kit, as long as I don't do so on our anniversary.:)
Thanks Trevor!
Just the photo shop Voodoo.:D
Thanks Graeme!
Cheers,
Justin.

Nice shot Justin. It adds a bit to the holiday if you can image from a site you don't normally have access to.

Justin,
Your LMC shot here has the kind of colour I can only dream of getting from my recent LMC (see thread (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=118983)). Care to share any secrets?? :) Was the colour variation there in the RAW or have you had to do a lot of work to bring out the pinks in the nebulosity?

Good question Roger,
How come Justin got nice red nebulas inside the LMC?
I have a very old bad photo on flickr taken with a DSLR
& it came out all blue just like Roger's.

Thanks Louie!
Hi Roger and Allan,
No big secret here, in photo shop I make a duplicate of the image, select Hue and saturation I select cyan and change the hue until it moves to the red. This seems to correspond pretty well to the HA regions, for the LMC.
I then layer in the modified sections into the original, usually have to do it a few times till it looks right.
So it's just channel swapping and layering of an unmodified DSLR image that looks the same as any other.
Cheers,
Justin.

OK Justin,
if you look at Rogers thread I had to separate then swap the red & blue channels
then recombine them to get the red areas coming out.
I don't think you can capture the LMC with a DSLR without cheating on the processing. :)
cheers

Too true Allan!
Have to get creative with an unmodified DSLR image.:D
