VIXEN R200SS CARBON FIBRE TUBE
Customised Vixen R200SS, Carbon Fibre tube upgrade from Germany, Milled Spider Vanes, Orion motorised focuser, Bobs Knobs, Magnetic Logo cover for easily removal to adjust the secondary (see photo), Vixen glue these in place normally and you have to peel the cover off to get to the adjusting screws. R200 SS Coma Corrector 2, Custom made 2 inch eyepiece holder with brass compression ring so your expensive eyepieces don’t get marked, Vixen 1 ¼ inch eyepiece holder Vixen extension tube and T ring adapter so you can mount an SLR or any astro camera easily. High quality Celestron finder scope with illuminated reticule, Saxon 80mm f5 guide scope & a long Vixen dovetail for easy balancing.

The Vixen R200SS has an enviable reputation as an astrograph, producing extremely sharp images with no chromatic aberration mainly because of their unique aluminium vacuum evaporation technology not found on the Chinese clones.

The biggest and mostly unjustified complaint people have about the Vixen R200SS is the thickness of the spider vanes. They are 6mm thick and they really don’t need to be that thick. At 2mm they are still very strong and no detrimental effect can be seen regards to holding the secondary mirror in place, it’s still solid as a rock.
By milling the spider vanes you gain extra aperture as well as less spiky stars. The milled area of each vane is 71mm in length, 4mm has been milled from each vane so multiply 71mm x4 and you get 284 sq mm of extra light reaching the mirror for just one vane, now multiply 284 by 4 to get the total area of extra light reaching the mirror, this is 1136 sq mm or 11.36 sq cm or in Imperial terms 1.760 sq inches which is almost the size of the secondary mirror.

If you look at the photos I have placed a standard Vixen spider assembly on top of the milled vanes so you can see the difference in thickness.

Cost of a new R200SS is over $2000 even if you buy from OPT at $1599 you have to add $262 for shipping plus import duty and GST its well over $2000. If you buy locally it’s still over $2000.
