Hi all,
Another nice shot from the other night on new year's day. Portrait format this time. I really like it :)

I really notice the difference between my creativity and photography success when on holiday and not stressed vs the normal working life. I wish I could have more holidays! I say this after being at work from 8am until 7:30pm :screwy: but hey at least I enjoy work I guess.
Regards,
Roger.
Very nice composition, Roger

Nice picture but why are the bright stars so blobby ?
nebulosity.

Yeah, thats really nice Roger
Could be from some thin cloud, or more likely added during processing to emphasise the the cross and pointers.

Yes a lovely photo that Roger
What do you do for a crust? It says software developer in your profile, is this from home or for someone else?

Thanks Antu :)
I use a diffuser filter on-site (not software, a piece of glass). I choose how much to apply it by waving it in front of the camera lens.
I've never found software will give a particularly good result at diffusing the stars because the colour is already lost by the time the RAW is captured.
Thanks Mike :)
Currently I work in a support role in an enterprise environment, supporting web applications and the like. Java, web app servers, databases and SQL etc. For 12 odd years prior I worked for an IBM Business Partner building web applications mainly or B2B & SMB based on Java/HTML/Javascript. That help? :)

Sort of :) I'd like to think of myself as a "well balanced computer nerd" considering I enjoy my IT job but outside work I only do what programming I need for my hobbies :)

Nice shot Roger. I like the diffusion effect when used lightly. I have a filter, but for timelapse it's not so good as you can't reduce the effect (by waving).
I'm in software too.. but much prefer chasing aurora! :)

I thought you were a goelogist  maybe I remembered wrong or maybe that's your field of expertise in software? :)
I agree, full diffuser is too much. Maybe you need to smoke your own glass for just the right level of diffusion for your timelapse :)

Nice work Roger,
What exposure setting did you use?
What mount?
Thanks

Thanks all.
I think it was 1 x 30s @ 1600ISO tracked on Polarie. Canon 6D. I took a bunch of images expecting to stack them as per normal but didn't see the need in processing, image was clean enough to save the hassle of dealing with the silhouettes and stacking.

Thanks Roger,
Assuming it's on a 50mm lens?

No actually, it was using my Tamron 24-70 f/2.8. I don't recall the exact zoom but could check EXIF later. It would have been at f/2.8.
