Tasmanian Aurora Australis

I have just returned from a fairly unsuccessful trip to Tassie as far as nights capes are concerned.:shrug:
We had 2 weeks of rain, wind and LOTS of cloud.

Fortunately, with one day to go, the nights cape gods smiled on me, and as mu luck would have it, the Aurora Australis gods smiled as well. :lol:

Here are a couple of shots taken at South Arm on the South Eastern extreme of Hobart, Jan 03 early morning.

I've also just returned from nearly 3 weeks in Tassie, so I know what you mean about the clouds. Unfortunately I returned on December 31st, so I missed the aurora by a couple of days :(

Thanks Stephen, yeah you were literally 1 day late, the skies were clear in the south the 1st, 2nd and 3rd, so far.
Ive seen Aurora shots for those 3 days so far.

I took so much gear with me that it was such a shame to unload the car at home tonight knowing that I hardly used it :sad eyes: (35kg worth)

Love the last one especially. I was up the east coast until 3 Jan and did some sky watching on the 2nd. Boy was it windy. Missed this unfortunately. Would love to have seen it.

I ended shooting a lot of waterfalls which worked out well, and I managed to do some dolly work, but not nearly enough for the weight and hassle of lugging it all down there.

Windy doesn't come to describe it, does it!
It was gusting up to 115kph at one point in the last week that I was there.
On the stinking hot day (for Hobart) that was in the 30's, I took my youngest son up the top of Mt Wellington and without a work of exaggeration it was in the minus figures due to wind chill.

It was funny seeing the tourists in their t-shirts and shorts getting out of their hire cars and rushing back in again, while my son and I were rugged up in our cold weather gear. :thumbsup:

I was quite disappointed to not be able to shoot a moving time-lapse from up there due to the wind, but in my haste with a complaining freezing son, I shot off a quick pano with little thought to anything much but getting it done quickly and I think that it might be my best ever pano that I have shot!

Where exactly on South Arm did you take them from?

it was the end of this road, over the fence, being extremely careful all night to avoid the cliffs.
