His triangulation from those records, shown in the graphic at right [see link], indicates that the space rock slammed into the atmosphere near 40° west, 12° north. 500-1000 t explosion would have done some serious damage if it hit a populated area and no one knew it happened.

Makes you wonder whether we'd even know or be told if a bigger one was about to hit.:question::eyepop:

This thing was too small to be detected much earlier than it was. It was just a large meteor actually. Dangerous objects are all picked up in good time to warn of impact by the NEO surveys.
