Ok, my gear arrives on Thursday:

Skywatcher NEQ-6Pro (Actually bought last weekend)
Orion ED80T-CF APO. (480mm F6)
Bintel Red Dot Finder
Astronomik CLS filter for my EOS cameras
Orion 50mm Guidescope package
Orion Field flattener.
Bahtinov Mask
Cabling to control said gear from my Laptop

I have a Canon EOS 7D that I will be using for the imager, although may be talked into buying a dedicated cooled imager in the future.

My guess is that the gear that I am getting is way beyond my skill level, which is a good thing given I don't want to outgrow it immediately, and the wide field will be more forgiving as I learn the black arts of aligning the mount for long exposures.

Bwahahahha[cough]ahhah!

Andrew, on your list there is no T-Ring adapter from the Flattener to the camera, there are a couple of versions available, if you haven't already ordered one make sure you get the wide one suitable for full frame (you may have to ask), I got mine from Bintel.

I spoke to Bintel (I ordered most of the gear from there) and allegedly the Field Flattener adds 55mm to the optical path, so no additional bits are necessary. I can't think of a time when I wouldn't be using the flattener (perhaps I'm mad) but I guess we'll see if it all lines up as the rep from Bintel assures me it will.

**EDIT** Ahaa, I've just worked out I misread the query. I also ordered a Canon Eos bayonet thingy (http://www.bintel.com.au/Astrophotography/Camera-Adapters---T-Rings/Canon-EOS-T-Ring/36/productview.aspx) to link the camera, but forgot to put it on the list.

Hi Andrew,

Um, please pardon the hack, but I couldn't resist, we have the same name!
How about that, two AP geeks called Andrew Campbell, with similar gear on IIS :eyepop: Life is full of co-incidences!

Cheers and enjoy your new gear!

G'day Andrew,

I recently bought a kit of goodies similar to what you have ordered. I went for the AZ EQ6 GT mount instead.

I'm still learning the ropes and how to align etc.

The bloke from Bintel said the flattener is not necessary when a barlow is used. But as I've just found out you may need a 50mm extension tube to reach focus with a barlow.

I must look into the CLS filters for my EOS.

Good luck with it all
