hello, my fathers just recieved his 10inch gso dob today and im trying to assemble it, it appears hes missing the two parts of the bearing assembly that get sandwiched between the two circular mdf plates on the base? im wondering if he was ment to get them or not because theres little bits of teflon plasticy stuff tacked onto the bottom plate, when i sit the other disc of mdf ontop of it it slides on it quit well (dunno how well it would slide if the ota was onit though)

thanks in advance

Hi Vector,

Your Fathers dob is supposed to have those teflon pads.

That roller bearing plate set-up shown in the instructions is for the 12" GS Dob only. All the other models have teflon pads.

Be glad you didn't get the roller bearing set-up as you would have thrown it away like almost all of us 12" dob owners did!

I replaced my roller bearing set-up with good old 'Teflon pads'.

Gonna use my Roller bearing stuff to make a swivel Binocular chair!
About all it's good for.

The previous advice sounds right to me, vector (welcome, by the way). A little judicious tightening and loosening of the centre bolt will also make some difference. Mine still isn't quite right although I'm getting there. There's a fine balance between having the whole assembly move too easily and having it move jerkily due to excessive tension.

To do it properly means having the tube assembly mounted - it doesn't need to be secured - for testing and then lifting it off to make adjustments (which, because I'm lazy, I have done little of). I'm assuming here that you don't have a fork lift or some other means of accessing the bottom and top of the base assembly without removing the telescope from the mount.
