I've had 2 outings now with my new set-up, and was very happy to see Uranus and Neptune and a couple of nebula for the first time last night.

On my first outing I had trouble with the polar alignment and then a power supply drama.

2nd time around equipped with new transformer I managed to polar align to 6 arc secs elevation and 20 arc secs az. Could have done a couple more 2 star alignments and gotten closer but found it was near enough for goto to place objects in the FOV every time.

Next step more practice with alignment and then start learning how to set-up the camera and take some shots.

Then comes tackling the dreaded steep learning curve for processing.

Still have an enormous amount to learn but slowly getting there. :)

Well done Kev, what gear do you have? Are you setting up at Minmi?

I go along to the Newcastle Astronomical Society a bit. Some of the guys there are right into imaging and would be a good source of info.

G'day Allan,

Yeah I'm setting up in the back yard at Minmi.

I bought an AZ EQ6 GT and a SW ED80 and a few bits and pieces.

I went to the December meeting of the club at the Uni and intend to continue going. Shame there's no January meeting. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you 'pros' to learn a few tips.

Cheers, Kev

Nice gear Kev. I haven't moved over to the dark side, but that's got to be one of the best set-ups to start off in imaging I reckon. I look forward to seeing your results. Catch you at a meeting soon then.
