My warm jacket has reflective tape on it. Would that be a problem at a star party?

I can't imagine it being a problem Jeanette. I would only think it would be a problem if someones headlights reflected off them ;)

Red headlamps might reflect off it, but it shouldn't be a problem.

If it worries you, just stick some black electrical tape over the reflective bits.

Thanks Paul. Thought I'd ask just in case. I didn't want to roll up to Astrofest and then be told I can't wear my coat.

beats getting bumped into every 5 mintues because people cannot see you. If people are that worried at a "public star party" then they should go away on their own.

I'm thinking of putting reflective tape around the legs of my mount to stop me from walking into them at night.

reflective tape only becomes visible when it is hit by light... I am assuming that there will be very litle light. :)

Yes plan to use 1000watt para flood lamps:P for the night lights with celophane of course, together with 3 20Mw laser pointers :D to create a false star for the adaptive optics, together with jeanette's relective night attire (sure its there so as a warning to hubby);)

I've seen people install red lights on their mounts...

Now if you could add a computer chip and controls to make them flash that would be pretty cool! ...safe and entertaining

Red Xmas lights are popular accessories at star parties.

HyPer7,
Which song from Rodriguez is your quote from?
I thought I knew most of his work.

ballaratdragons

It's from his song "Reflective Jacket"

Cold facts - Inner City Blue - Verse 5 -
"Drinking from a judas cup, looking down but seeing up
Sweet red wine"

Luv it. One of my top five albums.

So are you guys saying that I have to remove the flashing 10" neon ring from the rear end of my scope tube??

Seems like such a waste, given that it was made for a 10" subwoofer and fits a 10" mirror just as perfectly, it's even made to run on 12 volts.

Oh well ..the things we do ..... ;)

Next thing you'll be telling me that I can't bring the "blank" 10" scope tube that I turned into a bass cannon by adding two 600 watt active sub-drivers!!!

Cold Fact!
It is a great album isn't it.
I rate it in my top 10 favorite records.
I wonder (har har) why no-one has done any cover versions. The songs relate as much to today as they did back then.

[1ponders},

Gargoyle_Steve,

Ok here's a request for assistance.

Seeing as Jeanette had declined to lend her reflectivity to the protection of my tripod legs, does anyone know where to get adhesive reflective tape? I've tried Bunning, Mitre 10, BOC gas and safety and the local camping store without luck.

If you have some I'd happily buy a meter of it off you.

ps. I'll try to remember to bring "Cold Fact" out with me. Nice mellow music for after a hard night under the stars.

OK, I admit, I haven't been to a star party (yet:P ), but don't you need light for the reflectors to work? Or do you reckon there will be enough red light around for the reflectors to have effect.

jjjnettie
13-07-2006, 07:30 PM
It was suggested I bring along some black tape to cover it. Just in case.

By the way, I wasn't looking for an excuse to buy another jacket, I wouldn't part it. It is an Ansett original and guaranteed Anti-static so I won't blow up any aeroplanes when refueling.

Nordo
13-07-2006, 07:43 PM
I don't think there should be too many aeroplanes needing refueling at Astrofest - I might be wrong:lol: .
If it's warm - Wear It:thumbsup:

jjjnettie
13-07-2006, 08:12 PM
Maybe I should change that to not blowing up astronomers when they're refueling with alcohol.

We will be in the middle of 3 meteor showers during that weekend. A decent fireball will light up the landscape therefore my jacket as well.
