Tooo hot last night for long exposures, even with the cooler box for the DSLR.
What was good was the transparency, inky black skies and high contrast, brilliant!!:)
Until the clouds rolled in :mad2:.

Thanks Jo!
Hope you enjoy your 1100D, I think they are the best value and most versatile DSLR around.

The story of my tropical life lol. Nice image Justin. If you panned down a bit you could have a nova too, although eta would be out of frame.

Thanks Laurie!
Thanks Kevin!
Guess you must consistently warm nights in the tropics this time of year.
Should be quite a bit cooler here tonight, at 2 am this morning it was 24 Celsius.
Cheers,
Justin.

That's quite warm for down there! And it will only be like this for the next 4 months here. :help:
Are you considering going full spectrum or astro mod for your camera?

One of these days, I've already had a go at modding one camera myself and stuffed it up!!:rolleyes:
Think I'll leave it to the professionals.

Justin.

What went wrong?
I find in my middle age I'm all thumbs so I wouldn't be game to try it.

Yep, as you say all thumbs, and bifocal glasses don't help, can never quite focus on the fiddly stuff.
I didn't get two of the ribbon cables located properly first time and ended up snapping the little plastic clamps that hold the cables.
Cheers,
Justin.

Nice one Justin. It's an awesome little lens. :)
May I suggest knocking it down to F4.5 next time and it will help to reduce the coma around the edges. :)

Really nice pic for an UNmodded Canon !
This discourages me again from modding my 6d (too many risks).
One sees here again that a dark sky rules ! Unfortunately here in the Netherlands such pictures are impossible due to the heavily light polluted skies, unless one does narrowband CCD photography (which I don't). But in Feb I go to South Africa again and am going to take sky pictures with my brand new 6d !
You talk about Photoshop 7 ??? I thought 6 is the latest version ?

Thanks for the comments!
Photoshop 7 is an old version, probably 10 years, but it still does the job for me.
Enjoy your time in SA, hope you have clear skies.
Cheers,
Justin.
